Šibenik, October 18 th, 19 th and 20 th 2023

        October 18 th, 19th and 20th 2023 in Šibenik, on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of its foundation, the Public Institution Nature of Šibenik- Knin County hosts an international scientific and professional conference under the working title THE IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTED AREAS FOR PRESERVATION OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. The outstanding values of protected areas represent a major challenge to the sustainable social and economic development of local communities in Šibenik-Knin County, which need to be harmonised with the long-term objectives of protection and preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Our goal, therefore, is to enable professionals to exchange their knowledge and experiences, which can contribute to the prosperity of the whole community, while making a contribution to the preservation of the original natural and aesthetic value and historical legacy despite foreseeable changes. The following topics will be covered: the role and importance of protected areas; management goals; ecological network management; legislative framework and planning instruments; state of exploration of natural and cultural heritage; threats and protection and preservation issues; marketing concept and ways of presentation; education and interpretation methods; forms and level of sustainable tourism; opportunities for the use of natural resources, economic development and the impact of protected areas on the development of the local community. Announcements will be presented live and online. It will be possible for announcements to be presented in the form of posters as well. We invite you to make a contribution to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage of Šibenik-Knin County by taking part in the Conference and sharing your own experiences related to your region. The Public Institution Nature of Šibenik-Knin County was founded in 2007.
The activities of the Public Institution include the protection, maintenance, and promotion of protected areas with the aim of protecting and preserving the nature’s origin, ensuring unhindered course of natural processes and sustainable use of natural resources, and monitoring the implementation of the conditions and measures of nature protection in the area managed as well as collecting information with the aim of monitoring the conservation status of natural and cultural heritage.
The Public Institution Nature of Šibenik-Knin County manages seven protected areas and 56 sites of the ecological network of protected areas Natura 2000, in accordance with the Nature Protection Act of the Republic of Croatia (Official Gazette 80/13, 15/18, 14/19, 127/19) and the Decree on the Ecological Network and the Competencies of Public Institutions for the Management of Ecological Network Areas (Official Gazette 80/19).
